First Date Night Together

Between, moving-in and Oktoberfest we had been living together five days before we had a night, just he and I. So, Monday night was our night. The night was simple, but it was filled to the brim with love. I was so excited when he finally walked through the door in the evening. He came home with a bouquet of surprise flowers, what a great guy.

We decided it was just too nice of an evening to not go for a walk so we ventured out into our fun little neighborhood. Where we stumbled upon a little farmers market.

We then walked through the streets of new community, filled with big old homes and families going for evening walks. Yes, the picture is one of perfection.

When we got back to the apartment we cracked open a bottle of red and enjoyed being together (a far cry from our year of ill timed skype dates). Dinner was served and I must say, I impressed myself. Now, I am no Martha Stuart, but I do make a badass Greek stuffed chicken.

At the end of dinner we exchanged gifts (in our year apart we missed birthdays and our two year anniversary). We met in Moldova where we were both serving as Peace Corps volunteers (a two year program). He had only one year left in Moldova when we began dating and we decided that although I wasn't going to leave a year early, we wanted to stay together. During our year apart he was back in the US and I stayed behind in Moldova (finishing my full two+ years). It was a year of challenge for the both of us, but we saw it through. I was committed to finishing my service and staying with him and so we made it work. The peace dove represents both our Peace Corps service (a important chapter in both of our stories together and apart) and persevering through a year of long distance.

The evening was perfect and I think we both wondered what we had done to find ourselves in a place of such happiness.
