We are back from our adventure in Peru. It was incredible!
We spent nine days in the beautiful sacred valley region of Peru. During our time in Peru we spent a few days in Cuzco, a historic city rich with culture. The first few days we took our time adjusting to the elevation. Cuzco, sitting at 11,200 feet above sea level and has about 30% less oxygen than we are typically used to in Ohio.
Having taken over 1600 pictures in the nine days we were in Peru, I must say, Peru is simply beautiful my camera and I couldn't get enough. Below see some of the highlights from our time in Cuzco.
Plaza de Armas, the main square, is home to two large cathedrals. Sam and I found ourselves naturally drawn to the square each day. The sky was always changing and it shed light on new areas both near and far that kept the square feeling new each visit.
Our days were filled with meandering down streets in the historic district, eating wonderful food, and basking in the sunlight. The ideal time to visit Peru is during the dry season, their winter, our summer. It only got up to the mid-60s during the day and dipped down into the low 40s at night. That meant we dressed in layers each day and shed the layer in the sunshine and bundled back up in the evening when the sun set around 5pm.
The food we ate was hearty. Sam tried both Alpaca and Guinea Pig, both national delicacies. I had a taste of each but, he is definitely more adventurous when it comes to meal time. We drank fresh fruit juice daily. I love little more than a freshly blended mango juice.
Peru is steeped in religious history. Religion is engrained deeply in the culture. During our short time in Peru we found ourselves stumbling upon religious ceremonies and celebrations. It's beautiful to see how religion (regardless of denomination) can bring people together. Peru was no exception.
Cuzco, a colorful and cultural city. Our adventures in this city will be remembered forever.
