An Adventure to Louisville

Well, it's hard to believe but Sam and I have been living together for a full year now and recently celebrated our three-year dating-a-versary late last month. We made a fun decision to go away for a weekend adventure rather than swap anniversary gifts. So, last weekend we packed little weekend bags and snuck away for a fun two days in Louisville.

We started the weekend with a hike through the peaceful Jefferson Memorial forest.

After working up an appetite we headed in to downtown Louisville and took part in the first of many truly Kentuckian traditions, a bourbon tour. We visited the Evan Williams distillery where we learned about the history and process of making bourbon.

After the tour we took a stroll along the Ohio river and ogled at the beautiful old steamboat 'the Belle of Louisville'.

In the evening we went to Milkwood, a restaurant operated by a pervious Top Chef contestant, Edward Lee. The food was aptly dubbed 'classic southern cooking with an asian pantry'. The food was amazing! After dinner we checked out Fourth Street Live. A lively pedestrian only street filled with bars, restaurants, and live music. We ducked into the Makers Mark bar for a few cocktails. To cap off our night out we headed to the famous Seelbach Hotel, allegedly the stomping grounds of Al Capone during prohibition. The bar was very Mad Men-esque, an art-deco landmark.

Sunday, morning we ventured to a funky little part of town called NuLu. We ate deliciously savory baked deities and indulged in yummy coffee drinks.

After poking around the artsy shops and determining very little fell into our 'purchasing' price range, we ventured to the famous Churchill Downs to watch the final horse races of the season. The environment at the track was exciting. We stayed and watched the mid-day races before hopping back in the car and heading home.

Another successful trip.
Another successful adventure.
We sure do have a blessed life together.

Keep on adventuring, friends!
